College Credit

Does AP Business with Personal Finance Earn College Credit?

AP Business with Personal Finance is a new course, and its first exam is May 4, 2027, so colleges are still setting their policies. Here’s what College Board has said, when the first list of colleges is coming, and how to check the schools you care about.

The short answer

It can, but it’s too early to know which colleges will grant it. College Board says colleges are working with the AP Program to set credit policies for this course, and the first list of colleges granting credit for this exam will be released in spring 2027.

What College Board Says

How to Check a College

  1. Open College Board’s AP Credit Policy Search and look up the college.
  2. Look for AP Business with Personal Finance in its list. If it isn’t listed, the college hasn’t posted a policy for this exam in College Board’s search yet.
  3. Check the college’s own AP credit page (usually from the registrar or admissions office), or ask admissions directly. Policies can change each year.
  4. Note the score it requires and what it gives you: course credit, placement into a higher course, or both. The same college can treat different AP exams differently.
Good to know: for other AP exams, many colleges accept a 3 or higher, and some want a 4 or 5. Expect a range like that here too, but go by each college’s published policy.

The AP Business with Personal Finance Credential

This course is part of College Board’s AP Career Kickstart program, so it also offers an employer-endorsed credential. According to College Board, students earn it by completing the yearlong course and achieving “a qualifying score on the end-of-year exam and full-year Business Canvas Project.” The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is partnering with College Board to endorse AP credentials. The credential page doesn’t list the qualifying score, so ask your teacher how your school handles it.
